The Embassy Journal :On Sunday morning, Singapore’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Derek Loh, met with BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan, Dhaka. The meeting was attended by other key figures, including Michel Loh, Charge d’Affaires at the Singapore High Commission in Dhaka, and Rahul Abraham, Desk Officer from the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
BNP’s Standing Committee member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Chairperson’s Advisory Council member Enamul Haque Chowdhury, and members of the party’s International Affairs Committee, including Shama Obaid, were also present.
After the meeting, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury shared insights with the media, highlighting discussions about economic collaboration between the two countries. He mentioned that Singapore believes a democratically elected government in Bangladesh is necessary for making decisions regarding economic activities, including investments. According to Khosru, Singapore feels that without an elected government, it will be challenging to move forward with such economic initiatives.
Additionally, Singapore has expressed interest in assisting with the efficient operation of Bangladesh’s ports. There was also a focus on sending skilled labor to Singapore. The country is particularly interested in recruiting nurses and other skilled workers, signaling a need for Bangladesh’s workforce in various sectors. Singapore has also shown willingness to invest in enhancing the skill sets of Bangladesh’s labor force, with plans for technical collaboration in training and development.
This meeting reflects the growing economic and labor cooperation between Bangladesh and Singapore, with a strong focus on skilled workforce development and efficient economic integration.
