On the auspicious occasion of the national remembrance day, Ambassador of Norway to Bangladesh, Håkon Arald Gulbrandsen, participated in a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar, honoring the martyrs of the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War. The ceremony took place at sunrise, symbolizing a moment of reflection and respect for the sacrifices made during the war for the nation’s independence.

The National Martyrs’ Memorial, a symbol of Bangladesh’s struggle for freedom, stands as a tribute to the brave men and women who lost their lives during the Liberation War. Ambassador Gulbrandsen was among the dignitaries who paid their respects by laying a wreath at the monument, in recognition of the sacrifices that shaped the history of Bangladesh.

The ceremony was attended by a number of high-ranking officials, including the President of Bangladesh and the Chief Adviser, who also laid wreaths at the memorial. Members of the Diplomatic Corps, along with other distinguished guests, participated in the occasion, reflecting the global respect for the values of independence and freedom upheld by the people of Bangladesh.

Ambassador Gulbrandsen, in his remarks, expressed Norway’s continued solidarity with Bangladesh and praised the resilience and spirit of the nation. He highlighted the strong ties between Norway and Bangladesh, rooted in shared values of peace, democracy, and mutual respect.

This annual ceremony serves as a reminder of the profound sacrifices made during the Liberation War and continues to foster a sense of unity and remembrance among both Bangladeshis and the international community. The wreath-laying event was a poignant reflection of the ongoing respect and admiration for Bangladesh’s hard-won independence.
