The Japanese University Alumni Association in Bangladesh (JUAAB), in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan, organized a captivating Japanese Film Festival at the JUAAB Japanese Cultural Centre on December 14. The event showcased two iconic Japanese films, offering a glimpse into the diverse world of Japanese cinema.
The festival began with a warm welcome by Prof. Dr. Md. Khorshed Alam, President of JUAAB, and Mr. Kyohei Yamamoto, Deputy Head of Public Relations and Culture at the Embassy of Japan. Both expressed their excitement about the event, highlighting the cultural exchange and shared appreciation for Japanese arts. The films were introduced by Professor Dr. Moazzem Hussain, who conducted the program, guiding the audience through the significance of the selected works.
The first film screened was The Place Promised in Our Early Days, an animated feature directed by the renowned filmmaker Shinkai Makoto. Known for his masterpieces such as Your Name, Shinkai’s film offered a poignant exploration of themes like love, separation, and the impact of alternate realities. The second film, Takano Tofu, directed by Mitsuhiro Mihara, was a lighthearted human comedy that captured the simplicity and beauty of everyday life in Japan.
The event attracted a large audience, including members of JUAAB and students from the JUAAB Japanese Language School, all of whom enjoyed the films and engaged in lively discussions afterward. The festival not only served as a platform to promote Japanese culture but also strengthened the ties between Bangladesh and Japan, fostering greater cultural understanding through cinema.
The evening was a great success, offering attendees a memorable experience of Japanese film artistry and fostering a deeper appreciation for the cultural exchange between the two nations.
