The Embassy Journal :The Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Pranay Verma, has emphasized that India and Bangladesh’s cooperation is multifaceted and cannot be confined to a single issue or agenda, especially given the country’s turbulent political changes. Speaking at the opening of a three-day international conference on Sunday in Dhaka, Verma acknowledged that while there may be occasional discomfort in the bilateral ties, these challenges should not obstruct the overall progress of their relationship.

Verma was delivering a keynote address at the “Bay of Bengal Conversations” event, organized by the Center for Governance Studies (CGS), where he reflected on the evolving ties between the two neighboring nations. He highlighted that trade, economic cooperation, connectivity, and energy integration between India and Bangladesh have continuously advanced in a positive direction.

The Indian envoy reiterated India’s commitment to fostering a stable, positive, and constructive relationship with Bangladesh, with the people of both countries playing a key role in this partnership. He stressed that India views its relationship with Bangladesh through a long-term lens, believing that the peace, security, progress, and prosperity of both nations are interlinked.

Pranay Verma pointed out the ongoing advancements in several areas, including trade, transportation, energy connectivity, and people-to-people engagement, as reflections of this evolving, multifaceted relationship. He further noted that regardless of political changes, the mutual dependency between the two countries would ensure continued progress in their relationship for the benefit of both peoples.

Verma also cited the recent achievement of importing 40 MW of electricity from Nepal through India’s grid to Bangladesh and the expansion of infrastructure at the Petrapole-Benapole integrated check-post as examples of continued bilateral cooperation. He stressed that regional integration, like the BIMSTEC framework, serves as a key driver of India-Bangladesh collaboration in broader regional plans.

The High Commissioner reaffirmed India’s commitment to working with Bangladesh for mutual peace, security, and development, ensuring the well-being of the people of both countries through continued partnership.
