The Embassy Journal :As Western diplomats stir discussions around Bangladesh’s upcoming national election, China’s stance remains clear—non-interference. Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Yao Wen, reiterated that China’s policy is not to meddle in the internal affairs of any country, including Bangladesh, asserting that it is up to the people of Bangladesh to decide who will lead the nation.

This declaration comes amidst growing scrutiny from Western powers, particularly the United States and European nations, over Bangladesh’s electoral process. Questions have been raised by the ruling Awami League about the involvement of foreign entities in domestic elections, with General Secretary Obaidul Quader calling attention to these activities.ao’s recent remarks, made during a meeting with Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Bangladesh’s State Minister for Shipping, emphasized that China will not interfere in Bangladesh’s elections. “China does not interfere in the internal affairs of any country. We oppose any interference in the domestic matters of sovereign nations. The elections in Bangladesh are an internal issue, and we will not intervene,” Yao said.

The Minister for Shipping expressed satisfaction with the clarity of China’s position on the matter. He stressed that both Bangladesh and China aim to deepen their bilateral ties. He also noted that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina shares the view that it is the people of Bangladesh who should determine the nation’s future leadership.

In addition to political matters, Yao highlighted China’s interest in investing in Bangladesh’s infrastructure and agricultural sectors. He pointed to opportunities at the Mongla port and expressed China’s willingness to assist in the development of the electric vehicle, solar energy, and agriprocessing industries in Bangladesh.

The two sides also discussed potential investments in the textile and agriculture industries, as well as the modernization of Mongla port, reinforcing China’s commitment to fostering closer economic ties with Bangladesh.
