The Embassy Journal: The Bangladesh government has canceled the contractual appointments of ambassadors to six countries, including the United States, Russia, Japan, Germany, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. Additionally, the high commissioner to the Maldives, who was on deputation, has also been asked to return.
On Wednesday, separate gazette notifications signed by the foreign ministry’s director general DM Salah Uddin ordered the seven envoys to return home. Among those recalled are Mohammad Imran, the ambassador to the US; Kamrul Ahsan, the ambassador to Russia; Md Abu Jafar, the ambassador to the UAE; Shahabuddin Ahmad, the ambassador to Japan; Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, the ambassador to Germany; and Mohammad Javed Patwari, the ambassador to Saudi Arabia. The first three are career diplomats who had been serving on contract after their official tenure ended. Two former secretaries were posted in Japan and Germany, and the ambassador to Saudi Arabia was a former inspector general of police.
Rear Admiral SM Abul Kalam Azad, the high commissioner to the Maldives, has also been recalled.
In addition to the ambassadors, several other officials, including Arifa Rahman Ruma from the Bangladesh embassy in the US, Aparna Rani Paul from the Canadian high commission, and Mithila Farzana, have been asked to return.
This move follows a decision made during a meeting of the advisory council and is in line with the interim government’s directives, which included canceling all contractual appointments in various government positions.
