The Embassy Journal Desk :The EducationUSA team at the U.S. Embassy in Dhaka organized a pre-departure orientation (PDO) session for 120 Bangladeshi students heading to U.S. colleges and universities for the Fall 2024 semester. The event took place at the EMK Center, providing valuable guidance for students preparing for their studies in the U.S.

Stephen Ibelli, Public Affairs Counselor at the U.S. Embassy, congratulated the students in his opening remarks, praising the contributions of Bangladeshi students to U.S. campuses and strengthening bilateral relations. He highlighted that 13,563 Bangladeshi students studied in the U.S. last year, a record high and a 28% increase from the previous year, placing Bangladesh 13th among countries sending students to the U.S. globally. The number of Bangladeshi students going to the U.S. has surged by over 300% in the last decade.

Representatives from the U.S. Embassy’s Consular Section, EducationUSA, and international admission officers from U.S. universities shared insights into the cultural, academic, and lifestyle adjustments students may face. Ibelli encouraged students to take full advantage of the opportunities available to them in the U.S., emphasizing personal, professional, and academic growth, and to build a global network of friends and colleagues.

In the past decade, the number of Bangladeshi students in the U.S. has grown significantly, with undergraduate numbers rising by over 50%. EducationUSA offers advisory services and resources across various locations in Bangladesh, including the American Center, the U.S. Embassy, and American Corners in Chittagong, Rajshahi, and Sylhet.
